Google releases Bard to compete with ChatGPT as the AI chatbot race heats up.

Google Launches New AI-Based Service “Bard”

Alphabet-owned Google has launched a new conversational AI service called “Bard,” which will compete with the rival service ChatGPT, created by OpenAI.

The new service aims to create innovative ways of engaging with information, from language and images to videos and audio.

Bard is powered by the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) technology, which offers next-generation language and conversation abilities.

Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) Technology

Bard is powered by the LaMDA technology, which was unveiled by Google nearly two years ago. LaMDA comes with next-generation language and conversation ability. Generative AI includes algorithms, such as ChatGPT, that are capable of creating new content, including text, videos, audios, software codes, and images.

A recent report from McKinsey & Company suggests that new breakthroughs in the field of generative AI could change the way we approach content creation.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence, and creativity of Google’s large language models.

“Bard can be an outlet for creativity and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from Nasa’s James Webb Space Telescope to a nine-year-old or learn more about the best strikers in football right now and then get drills to build your skills,” Pichai added.

The company plans to combine the external feedback with its internal testing to ensure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety, and groundedness in real-world information.

Competition in Generative AI

The competition in the field of generative AI is intense, and OpenAI’s AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, has been creating a buzz across the internet with its writing ability and responses to requests.

ChatGPT is a program that comes up with human-like responses to prompts in seconds, based on information publicly available on the internet.

API for Generative Language

From March, Google will start bringing in individual developers, creators, and enterprises to test its generative language application programming interface (API), initially powered by LaMDA with a range of models to follow.

API is a software intermediary that allows two different applications to connect or communicate with each other. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that over time, the company intends to create a suite of tools and APIs that will make it easy for others to build more innovative applications with AI.
