The Saudi Public Prosecution reaffirmed that defaming someone on social media is an information crime that warrants deterrence and criminal sanctions.

“Defaming people, and damaging them, through social media, is an information crime that warrants deterrent criminal consequences,” the Public Prosecution’s official Twitter account stated.
“Anyone who promotes, aids, or agrees with another person to commit the required crime shall be punished with no more than the maximum sentence authorized for that offence,” the Prosecution noted.
The Authority added that the initiator faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of 500,000 riyals, as well as the confiscation of any hardware, software, and other items involved in the crime. Watch More: Gulf Tech & News.
