Bahrain To Allow Prison Inmates To Study for Master’s Degrees – Gulf Insider

Bahrain inmates will be given the opportunity to study for master’s degrees.

An initiative aimed at allowing inmates to pursue their university studies has been unveiled.

The initiative, which is coordinated with the Ministry of Interior, reflects commitment to enabling all citizens to develop their capabilities and contribute to developing their communities, said Education Minister, Higher Education Council (HEC) Board of Trustees’ Chairman Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma.

In a statement, Dr. Juma praised the support of the Minister of Interior General Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to joint work to implement the best practices and care for inmates’ rights.

A batch of 192 inmates from reformation and rehabilitation centres will be registered after expressing their desire to study for their bachelor and master’s degrees. 

He pointed out that the council held a series of meetings with competent authorities before launching the initiatives, extending thanks to the Ministry of Interior, as well as higher education institutions for their cooperation.

The inmates will be registered in academic majors which include business management, accounting and geography and history.
